Welcome
I'm Lisa, and I created The Midlife Apothecary because I am an advocate for keeping as close to natural as possible when it comes to supporting this precious vehicle that is carrying us through life. And let's face it, we have put it through its paces up until now. So I am firstly grateful to have got to this point in my lifespan, and now — perhaps more than ever — I am acutely aware that my body needs me to take care of it, to nurture it, and help it navigate the chaos of hormone change so that it can keep running on optimum for the rest of my life. This is our most precious asset. Without it, this life ceases to exist.
A bit about me
I am Gen X and I have always had a close relationship with nature. The natural world is something I appreciate on a daily basis — the beautiful sights, sounds, smells, textures and tastes. These things support my wellbeing both physically and spiritually, and I believe this has helped me enormously navigate perimenopause before landing on the post side of the fence.
For me, staying as close to natural as possible is the best wellness remedy. And because I am curious and passionate about this, I research everything to death to work out what's best for my body and for the planet. Those two go hand in hand and that's non-negotiable.
So what is The Midlife Apothecary?
This blog is here to share what I hope will be empowering information — natural remedies, botanical wisdom and product recommendations that are in alignment with how we want to live.
I explore nature's bounty and through writing and beautiful imagery I will be presenting potential solutions to aid, boost and restore midlife wellbeing. Because this is a new chapter — and why wouldn't and shouldn't we be out there living our best lives just because one element is going out of business?!
You'll find guides covering sleep, energy, stress, brain fog and the botanical remedies — from functional mushrooms to adaptogens — that are making a real difference for women like us.
Just so you know — this isn't a medical site. I'm not a doctor, but I am a post-menopause woman on your journey. And I don't buy into the doom and gloom that's often portrayed for this era of life.
A word I want you to know
There's a Japanese concept called konenki — it's their word for menopause, and it translates roughly as renewal energy. Not decline. Not the end of something. Renewal.
I find that reframing genuinely helpful on the difficult days. This isn't a chapter closing. It's something else beginning. And the right natural support can make that beginning feel a lot more like the adventure it's supposed to be.
What you'll find here
Honest guides and insights, product recommendations where applicable, and a space to visit when the challenges we face feel overwhelming — because these changes are normal, and there is a glorious way forward.
So let's get down to business and use what nature has to relight your fire! 🔥
— Lisa
